Big Sandy Superstore was founded in Ashland, Kentucky in 1953 by Robert Van Hoose, Sr. Fresh out of the Air Force, Mr. Van Hoose had a $1000 loan from his wife Lorna and opened his first store. With his faith in God as his foundation, Mr. Van Hoose ran his business on a very basic principle…the golden rule. He believed in giving customers the best possible value for the money spent and if there was a problem, simply follow the golden rule. This simple formula has stood the test of time as Big Sandy has grown into a regional powerhouse in the home furnishings industry and is one of the nation’s top 100 furniture retailers.
